Having to click through 14 screens after a lesson is terrible UX

Having to click through 14 screens after a lesson is terrible UX

Honestly, I find myself significantly less likely to do another lesson after having to click through so much rubbish.

Edit to provide more context about what I'm complaining about:

To start with, I'm in favour of gamification. That's what duolingo has historically done really well. I think they are ruining the gamification by thoughtlessly piling on features, leading many users to cease to care about any of them. For instance, I now care less about badges because they are drowned out by a sea of other things.

As others have said in this thread, it feels like independent developers were tasked with building out features without ever thinking about what the experience would be like when they are combined.

Good gamification doesn't feel like never-ending screens. This just encourages the user to click through them as quickly as possible without reading them properly. A couple of screens are great and I think it's only gotten out of hand in the last months. Even if it was just capped at 4 or 5 screens that would be fine, showing different screens each day could also mix things up.

A skip button would also be great.

The rest of the information that wasn't presented in screens could just appear as notification bubbles or something to in the main UI. Many people would probably go check the notifications - but when there's even a small bit of actively looking for the information yourself it makes the experience quite different.

Is the gamification of life one of the more under-noticed symptoms of late stage neoliberalism?

One of the more not so talked about symptoms, I think, of late-stage capitalism, but really more so neoliberal logic onto everyday life, is the gamification of life. Ever since 2020, there's been a rise and a creep in neoliberal logic about everything. The self-optimization trap, basically.

I am not gonna be too deep with my examples, but if you need a more elaborate description, just ask away!

Take education for example: Under strict neoliberal logic, education is supposed to be a networking tool for improving your own career and self development accolades, rather than it being a platform for broadening your wisdom and sharpening your intution on things.

Another example is relationships: Rather than relationships being useful to build up human connections with our own communities and social groups. Relationships become another tool for advancing up one's own place in the hierarchy and once again improving one's own networking opportunities for better career gains and status-seeking

Then there's health. I hate the way wellness culture has become so metrics-driven. Trying to get healthy used to be plain and simple: as much clean food as you can get, go to the gym, drink plenty of water, stretch, take your hygiene seriously, and try to reduce your exposure to everyday toxins. That was it. But then the metrics got in the way: calorie counting, the capitalization of supplements, the holistic health guru trap, as well as the gym optimization treadmill. Need I go on?

And then one of the more obvious ones that I think I'm forgetting to mention, but um, as well is the turbo acceleration of self-improvement culture. Self-improvement used to be easy: get out of your comfort zone, sharpen your wisdom on things, learn a new skill, get out there and experience things for yourself, try to actually grow morally, socially, and cognitively as a person. The concept was simple. Then it got bastardized by self-optimization culture. You know, hardcore careerism, gym maxing, hustle culture, status maxing, etc., you name it.

Obviously, I'm not saying that every person is internalizing and inheriting the pressures of neoliberal logic onto their day-to-day logistics. I am saying, though, that the cultural waterfall of things may be trending towards this direction more than what people realize.

Thoughts?

PikabooIRL pulls out mid sponsor with Tradeify promoting a Premier Trade League tournament. Ends stream and deletes the VOD.

PikabooIRL pulls out mid sponsor with Tradeify promoting a Premier Trade League tournament. Ends stream and deletes the VOD.

PikabooIRL’s Twitch live chat was begging him not to become a gambling streamer and to stop promoting his new sponsor, Tradeify. He ended up backing up, but at the cost of breaking a signed contract and dealing with the legal fallout. During the sponsored segment, he had to abruptly end his stream, delete the VOD, and inform his audience that he needed to handle the situation via private messages off-stream.

He later insisted that he had no clue what he was actually promoting, genuinely believing the platform was for "educational" purposes. Yet, a simple glance into the predatory mechanics of Tradeify would have easily prevented this major fumble to his personal brand and community trust.

While most of the live chat was firmly against the sponsorship, another segment of the audience was simply spamming "skill issue" or chalking it up to normal trading. They mocked concerned viewers as "soft chatters" who were forcing Pikaboo to bend to their will, even claiming he would regret pulling out later because there was no "real" backlash. In reality, viewers immediately recognized the gambling patterns designed to make everyday users lose their money quickly. The chat panicked because they felt the streamer was platforming a financial trap to a broad and potentially vulnerable audience.

Ultimately, the blame lies on the streamer in the first place and their agency for platforming and promoting what kind of sponsors they work with.

What people find out after a quick research: even if it's no secret trading prop firms are predatory, scammy gambling vehicles rather than actual open trade markets, their entire infrastructure is specifically engineered to monetize trader failure through hidden rule landmines

While it is free to sign up on their website, users must first pass a trader qualification evaluation. This evaluation costs anywhere from $97 to $510 upfront, depending on the chosen account size ($25K, $50K, $100K) and the program type (Growth, Select, or Lightning). The evaluation phase is heavily restricted by:

  • An End-of-Day trailing drawdown: A mechanic that automatically ratchets your risk floor upward as you make money, choking your breathing room.
  • A strict profit consistency rule: This ensures a single lucky day cannot make up the bulk of your target.
  • A minimum trading days requirement: Forces you to stay exposed to market risk for a set period.

Simply put, these rules are built to control how you trade, not to help you learn.
Evaluation platforms often claim that you will succeed if you just "educate" yourself and "keep winning if you can control your emotions."

In reality, the system is designed to force you into making quick, high-risk moves. The rules are not there to test your patience or psychological discipline; they are actively working to push you into a corner where you have to overtrade just to survive.

The moment a user breaks a single rule, their account and accrued profits are immediately locked. To try again, they must pay an additional fee to reset their progress. This loop is exactly how Tradeify, like other retail prop firms, generates the vast majority of its profit—relying on a steady stream of upfront evaluation fees, reset fees, and inevitable failures.

Even if users read the guidelines, most do not understand how these metrics interact in real-time. This complexity is so deceptive that even top-tier streamers like Pikaboo have gotten visibly confused while their own sponsors tried to explain the mechanics live on stream.

To continuously feed this system, the firm utilizes free-entry tournaments. These events heavily promote accessibility to disarm viewers' vigilance and lean into the Twitch gamification trend—a scheme that uses fake money to lure users into paying very real evaluation fees. This creates the illusion of easy profits while matching amateur participants against seasoned professional traders and prominent trading personalities. These competitions serve as a brilliant marketing funnel designed to attract crowds of beginners, leading them straight into buying paid evaluations and trapping them inside the firm's paid ecosystem.
